It’s not summer until the Vans Warped Tour®–North America’s longest-running touring festival–begins, and 2010 promises to be the most memorable jaunt yet for the annual punk rock extravaganza. Now in its 16th year, the 43-date tour commences June 25 in Carson, CA and finishes August 15 in Hillsboro, OR (see full list of tour dates, cities and venues below).  The tour’s kick-off party is confirmed for Friday, April 9 at the Key Club in West Hollywood with performances from a diverse array of Vans Warped Tour 2010 artists including: Andrew W.K., The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, The Pretty Reckless, Pierce the Veil and Death Punch.

“Anyone who thought that after the 15th Anniversary we would let up was mistaken,” says tour founder Kevin Lyman.

The 2010 incarnation of the VANS Warped Tour–affectionately known as “punk rock summer camp”–will host a distinct and diverse lineup of the hottest artists on the scene, as well as a full concourse of

lifestyle attractions and vendors. Even better, it all comes at a traditionally affordable ticket price. More interactive and fan-friendly than ever, check out the newly re-vamped WWW.WARPEDTOUR.COM. Visit the site for a full list of bands performing at each show and more.

Also an internet presale is ongoingwhere fans can purchase their tickets early.  Fan-friendly ticket prices remain a staple of the Vans Warped Tour. All pre-sale ticket holders have access to a separate line that allows them into the venue at 11:00 AM sharp. That exclusive pre-sale price gives fans a concert ticket, a free copy of the Vans Warped Tour 2010 compilation CD (SideOneDummy), a 25-cent donation to the Unite the United charity and all service fees.  Only a limited amount of pre-sale tickets are available.

Fans who purchase tickets during the pre-sale have the option of buying the VANS WARPED TOUR 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION DVD/CD for a fan-friendly price of $15.00. Released March 30 (U.S. and Canada), the DVD/CD chronicles the legendary private birthday bash held last fall at Club Nokia at L.A. Festival organizers made this traveling punk rock circus the summer’s best bang for your buck. Appealing to everyone from traditional punk fans to backpacking hip hop kids to metal heads, VANS Warped Tour has its finger on the pulse of the most fiery acts in absolutely each and every genre–from more traditional punk acts Dropkick Murphys, Pennywise and Alkaline Trio, to the straight up rock of Street Sweeper Social Club, the blistering metal of Dillinger Escape Plan and the party rock of Andrew W.K..

Plus, keeping our environment in mind, the WARPED ECO INITIATIVES (WEI) will continue to be a big part of the tour in 2010. Facets of WEI range from biodiesel fuel for touring trucks and buses to environmentally friendly catering for bands and crew courtesy of Tada Catering. There’s even a solar-powered sound system on the Kevin Says Stage.  WARPED will again collaborate with Philippe Cousteau’s environmental organization Earth Echo International to cultivate environmentally-friendly programs that encourage awareness through action, and to bring these initiatives to into the collective fan consciousness.  Furthering WEI’s online presence, the WARPED website (WWW.WARPEDTOUR.COM) showcases pages for each tour date, including public transportation options and carpool message boards as well as eco contests and initiatives. WARPED TOUR and EarthEcho International will again organize a volunteer watershed cleanup at NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Monterey, CA.

In addition, the VANS WARPED TOUR has partnered with the TJ Martell Foundation once more. For each tour date, the TJ Martell Foundation will auction a pair of tickets and the opportunity for fans to watch their favorite band from the side of the stage. Plus, the third annual Vans Warped Tour/TJ Martell bowling event has been scheduled for Monday, June 28 in Phoenix, AZ. Bands will square off in a rock n’ roll bowling competition of epic proportions. Working in conjunction with 103.9 (The X), WARPED will auction off a spot on every band bowling team, allowing lucky fans to roll alongside their favorite rockers.

It will no doubt be another year to remember for this summer tradition. See what the press has said about past installments of the tour:

“Best Tour/Festival Of The Year”

                                    –Alternative Press, February 2009

“Trends pass. Rock festivals come and go. But the Warped Tour marches on.  Warped hasn’t just survived–it continues to thrive: Fourteen years after quietly premiering as a celebration of the teenage skate-surf-punk culture, one decade after expanding to a massive multi-stage event, the traveling music party remains one of the summer’s perennial draws…”

–Brian McCollum, Detroit Free Press, July 17, 2009

“…as much a coming-of-age experience as a concert event. The bonding between the bands and their mostly young fans is very real, with autograph sessions and mingling being as common as the catchy riffs pinging around the pavilion.”

–Christopher Porter, Washington Post, July 19, 2008

“…about 100 bands on 10 stages made for several forms of success…”

–Jon Caramanica, New York Times, July 28, 2008

“…the ultimate sampler platter for what’s hot and rising from the underground or has already arrived…”

–Darryl Morden, Hollywood Reporter/Reuters, June 22, 2008

ALL TOUR DATES, ALL TICKETS WILL FEATURE ALL-INCLUSIVE FLAT RATE TICKET PRICING
STAGE VERSION OF AMERICAN IDIOT OPENS ON BROADWAY AT THE ST. JAMES
THEATRE ON APRIL 20TH
March 26, 2010 — Burbank, CA — Reprise Records’ multi-platinum rock band Green Day will hit the road with support from AFI in August for a series of North American tour dates produced by Live Nation. This is the second leg of the band’s critically acclaimed U.S. tour in support of their current gold-certified album 21st Century Breakdown, which won a 2010 Grammy Award for “Best Rock Album.”
In keeping with Green Day’s trailblazing and innovative mind-set the band will feature all-inclusive ticket pricing for all tickets throughout their entire tour with no additional fees of any kind. A limited number of lawn seats will be offered for $20 when tickets go on sale to the general public.
Critics raved about the first leg of the 21st Century Breakdown tour,  which launched in North America in July of 2009, before continuing on to Europe in the fall. “As if releasing a wave of energy that had been building up during their four-year hiatus from touring, Green Day poured all their heart and soul into a powerhouse two-hour set,” said Rolling Stone, while Spin noted that “the band’s relationship with its audience is disarmingly real, a cross generational give-and-take that’s as punk as any Gilman Street scroungers today.”
Released by Reprise Records on May 15th, 2009, 21st Century Breakdown debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, as well as on the Rock, Active Rock, and Alternative charts. The album has spawned two hit singles, “Know Your Enemy,” which has been certified gold, and the platinum-selling “21 Guns,” whose video won three 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, including “Best Rock Video.” The band took home their second American Music Award for “Favorite Alternative Music Artist” in November.
Green Day, which is singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool, are also gearing up for the Broadway premiere of American Idiot — the critically acclaimed stage version of Green Day’s chart-topping 2004 album that completed a record-breaking three-month run at The Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Directed by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), who collaborated on the story with Armstrong, the show opens at the St. James Theatre on April 20th, 2010.
To charge by phone call 1-800-745.3000.  All dates, acts, and ticket prices are subject to change without notice.

Concert Review: Aerosmith and ZZ Top 07.27.09

You can rock at any age by D. Marcher

Check out the Concert Pictures here: ZZ Top, Aerosmith

I have to admit, even though Aerosmith and ZZ Top are from my parents’ era… their performances are timeless.  In fact, these two bands performance outshined some of the recent shows I have been to!

Perhaps it is the years, well, decades of tour experience.  Or just the fact they really are that good, this concert is not one to be missed.

ZZ Top, the trio of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, started off the night with the no frills performance, letting their music take center stage.  Don’t get me wrong they were very entertaining, but what is just how good their music is, no frills needed.

Their fans were not disappointed as they played their classics “Legs”,”Cheap Sunglasses,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” Gimme All Your Lovin’” and “Tush.”

As the night progressed, the Cricket Pavilion Lawn tripled in capacity as Fans prepared for Aerosmith.  I had to admit, I was slightly concerned about their performance, due to all the recent injuries the band had sustained.

I was not disappointed as Tyler and the rest of Aerosmith kicked off the night with “Eat the Rich”.  As a complete side note, I had to admit I was slightly taken back by Tylers’ appearance and it slightly resembled that of Janice

Dickerson.  Regardless of the outfit, which did improve during the evening as he lost the hat, glasses and coat and became the Rock God we all know so well.

Aerosmith kept the night rocking performing their hits “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way,” “Dream On” and “Train Kept a Rollin’.

As I looked around, I realized I had never seen such a diverse crowd.  I was sitting next to a 20 something on one side and I am guessing a 70 something (no I didn’t ask) on the other, and they were both screaming their heads off, often conversing about the performance as the night progressed.  Where else would you see that?

Both agreed that the highlight of the night was when ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons joined Aerosmith for “Rattlesnake Shake”.

It just proves, you can rock at any age!

Phoenix Concert Review: Nine Inch Nails Owns the Cricket Pavilion Stage May 15 2009

May 16, 2009 by FromTheCrowd

by Cassie Roberts, www.FromTheCrowd.com Contributor

Some shows, have a lot of hype, from fans, from the media and well from just a lot of great PR, however, after the show begins, you realize its all just hype. Occasionally, this is due in no part to the actual band performing, but in some cases, the crowd itself, or some other outside factor like the weather. In some cases the bar, has simply been set too high.

Here in Arizona, we already have two things going against us, the weather (anytime after March) and the crowds (which aren’t exactly known for being the most supportive, in the I’m going to stand the entire show type of way). Even the most seasoned performer can fail to deliver with these two roadblocks, you just never know until the set has begun.

There was a lot of hype with the NIN|JA tour, after all it is the first tour in 9 years with them sharing a stage… so I have to admit I was concerned, but with my ticket in hand, with faith in Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction, I had a good feeling about tonight and I was right!

I do have to give props to Street Sweeper Social Club. I had read and heard some great things and they provided a set that was unlike anything I was expecting. I feel privilege to be there on the ground floor with them on this tour. Sure, I’m talking about Tom Morello and Boots Riley, two legendary performers in their own genre, but would they mix? The answer to that is an overwhelming YES!

Jane’s Addiction also delivered a strong set and was able to get the crowd motivated and on their feet, however, the night belonged to Nine Inch Nails.

All of the elements were in place for one of those once in a life time performances. Sure it was hot, but there was an amazing energy in the crowd, that was matched by NIN on stage. The sounds, the lighting, the crowd and the music all collided to create the perfect enviorment for NIN as to deliver, perhaps the one of the best performances I have ever witnessed. The set was moving, the stage and lighting were unprecedented and the crowd was eating out of the palm of their hands.

To steal a tweet from Tom Morello (http://twitter.com/tmorello) @tmorello shared: “It is near impossible to make a musical moment in a 15,000 seat venue “haunting” but NIN “Hurt” is that and more. Just stunning. Unreal.” Keep in mind who this statement is coming from.

If you missed this show, you may never forgive yourself, however, you still have time to catch them on tour for the rest of the summer near by. It’s time for a road trip!
