Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/producer Richard Marx and Vertical Horizon lead singer/songwriter/producer Matt Scannell are a musical match made in acoustic heaven. Both platinum-selling vocalists and guitarists have had their own successes throughout their careers. Now the talented duo has teamed up to banter and bang out hit after hit and the stories behind them in support of their new CD aptly titled, “Duo.” The 10-song collection features a brand new song they wrote together (”Always On Your Mind”), as well as reinventions of mega-hits “Hazard,” “Everything You Want,” “Endless Summer Nights” and more.

Marx started out as a soft rock, adult contemporary artist, but has proven that, despite being known for his soft ballads, he has enough edge to veer into the classic rock genre. Well-known for his hit songs in the ’90s, such as “Endless Summer Nights,” “Right Here Waiting” and “Should Have Known Better,” he was the first solo artist to have seven songs hit the top five on U.S. charts.

The very successful Vertical Horizon faced some highs and lows, especially when they lost their record deal, but with the release of “Go,” they are reviving themselves. “Burning the Days,” the group’s first new project after a five-year hiatus, is currently set for release on September 22, 2009.

Sanderson Music Series welcomes the Rock Til We Drop Tour featuring DOKKEN and MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP (MSG) with special guests L.A. GUNS and BANG TANGO at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 17th at Celebrity Theatre.

The 80s saw the rise of one of the most respected vocalists of the decade, Don Dokken. With his unique voice and passionate style, he helped make the band DOKKEN one of the most dominant and creative forces in hard rock. Lightning Strikes Again 2008, Dokkens debut album for Rhino Records, marks a return to form that rivals the groups past platinum successes, such as the bands 1985 certified platinum album Under Lock And Key. Our goal, says Dokken, was to create an album that was our best since our heyday.  Fueled, as ever, by Dokkens formidable lead vocals, standout tracks include Standing On The Outside, Oasis and Heart To Stone, all of which capture the potent crush of barbed-wire riffs and razor-sharp melodies.

MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP (MSG) co-headline the tour with their “In The Midst of Beauty - World Tour. German guitar great Michael Schenker debuted with the Scorpions on their debut album Lonesome Crow at age 15 and was lauded at the time for his mature technique. After Scorpions, Schenker joined UFO. He wrote the music for most of UFO’s major label debut album Phenomenon. In 1979, he founded the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP. In 1990 Schenker briefly played guitar for the band RATT appearing on their MTV Unplugged performance. Schenker is famous for his half-black, half-white Gibson Flying V and his unorthodox approach to lead guitar.

Doors open at 6 p.m. General Admission tickets (40.50 in advance/$48 day of show) are still available at Celebrity Theatre or online at www.celebritytheatre.com. To charge by phone, call 602-267-1600 ext.1. All tickets are subject to a surcharge.  Celebrity Theatre is conveniently located at 440 N. 32nd St., just south of the Loop 202 freeway, in Phoenix.

EN VOGUE & BELL BIV DEVOE Tickets On Sale Fri., 5/1!

PHOENIX, AZ – Sanderson Music Series presents EN VOGUE and BELL BIV DEVOE in concert at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8th at the intimate Celebrity Theatre. Tickets ($43 and $53) go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 1st at Celebrity Theatre or online at www.celebritytheatre.com. To charge by phone, call 602-267-1600 ext.1. The funky divas of EN VOGUE are back and badder than ever featuring Cindy Herron, Dawn Robinson, Terry Ellis and Maxine Jones. The Grammy-nominated all-female R&B, dance club, and soul vocal quartet has sold over 20 million albums and singles worldwide. They have won more MTV Video Music Awards than any other female group in MTV history (a total of 7). And the group was named the second most successful girl group of the 1990s according to Billboard magazine. Songs like “Hold On,” “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” “Giving Him Something He Can Feel,” “Free Your Mind,” and “Whatta Man” featuring Salt-N-Pepa, are just a sampling of the mega hits made famous by the pop/R&B super group. Later this year, they will release their 20th anniversary CD.

Rising from the remnants of New Edition, but funkier, sexier & edgier - with mega-albums & super singles, it’s BELL BIV DEVOE! The hip-hop/R&B fusion band is a splinter from original 80s group New Edition featuring three former New Edition members: Michael (”Biv”) Bivins, Ricky (”Slick”) Bell and Ronnie (”RD”) DeVoe. Bell Biv DeVoe debuted with its first single, “Poison,” off the album of the same name in 1990. Performed in the style of ‘New Jack Swing,’ a blend of hip-hop and R&B, the single was an immediate success. The album went platinum three times. Other hits included “Do Me,” “Word to the Mutha” and “She’s Dope.” The success of the New Jack Swing music style is said to have influenced hip-hop in the coming decade and was an often copied thread technique among upcoming musical talents.
