MARIAH CAREY
THE “ANGELS ADVOCATE” TOUR
Saturday, February 20
(Phoenix, AZ) – For Mariah Carey’s legions of North American fans, the long wait is over, as the international superstar announces her first major tour in more than three years in support of her #1 R&B album, MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL. The “Angels Advocate” Tour stops at Dodge Theatre in Phoenix Saturday, February 20, 2010 for a 8:00 p.m. performance.
The 8-week, 19-city “Angels Advocate” Tour is the first major tour by the most successful female recording artist in history since the “Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, The Hits, The Tour” of August through October 2006. The opening act on the “Angels Advocate” Tour will be RydazNrtist, a new R&B group signed to Nick Cannon’s NCredible Entertainment.
MEMOIRS OF AN IMPERFECT ANGEL, Mariah Carey’s 12th studio album, follows her multi-platinum E=MC2 (2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (2005). The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. Soundscan’s biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured “We Belong Together” (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and “Don’t Forget About Us,” Mariah’s 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. Three years later, “Touch My Body” (from E=MC2) became her 18th #1 Hot 100 hit, surpassing Elvis Presley’s previous record of 17 #1 Hot 100 Hits. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles’ all-time high of 20 #1 hits. The success of E=MC2 brought total sales of Mariah’s albums, singles and videos to more than 175 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history.

iTunes To Be Forced to Drop Prices to Compete with TunesPro

Music is the voice of the soul, or so it is said. But the distribution of our spiritual voice has become increasingly complex in recent years with the growth of the online market. The medium that once relied on physical media like Vinyl and CDs has crossed the border, beyond the need for a physical storage device and into the digital era.
As dedicated music lovers continue to add to their collection of records and CDs, the majority of people prefer to buy their music online. In any discussion of music sales, iTunes is the elephant in the room. Apple has created the premier music destination with their digital music catalog and brand named iconic iPods.
While iTunes is unquestionably the industry’s leader in terms of market share, the site no longer offers the best value for money to the consumer. Newer cheaper competitors are beginning to emerge that are basing their business model on a more affordable and widely accessible price point.
An example of a new mp3 website gaining popularity is TunesPro.com who just after launching offers individual songs for $0.19 while full albums are sold for as little as $2.00.
Meanwhile, the average song on iTunes continues to sell for $1.29, which up until now has been low enough to appeal to consumers deterred by the high prices charged for full album CDs.
This newer type of business model being pursued by Apple’s competitors is heavily reliant on broadening the consumer base yet it remains to be seen if it’s a realistic concept. Contingent upon results, it is likely that we will see an implosion reminiscent of the dot-com bust.
Ultimately the market will determine if the TunesPro strategy is economically viable, however if more digital song competition arrives charging a fraction of the current music costs, iTunes will be forced to lower their prices accordingly.
One thing is for sure, if you’ve been on the fence about buying your favorite musician’s latest album then there has never been a better time to get it cheaply.
Weezer come to Phoenix January 15!

WEEZER
FRIday, JANUARY 15

(Phoenix, AZ) – Rocks most loveable outsiders, Weezer, bring their alt-rock to Dodge Theatre January 15 at 8:00 p.m. in support of the bands November 3 release Raditude.
With its rollicking communal spirit Raditude upends any expectations audiences may have of Weezer, amplifying their trademarks to a dizzying degree – the pop hooks dig deeper, the rock hits so hard it bruises – but the group subverts these signatures with a sly hand while pushing boldly into new territory. Within these 10 songs lie boundless possibilities and ceaseless excitement, proof that Weezer remains a band that defies easy summations and can never be taken for granted, a band who has grown as they’ve opened their horizons.
Raditude caps off a remarkable decade that saw Weezer reassert its position as one of the biggest, best rock bands in the world while also seeing their influence echo through a generation who absorbed the sound and feel of the group’s two classic ‘90s albums. Weezer emerged on the music scene in 1994 with their self-titled double-platinum debut album, dubbed The Blue Album featuring such era-defining hits as “Undone—The Sweater Song” and “Buddy Holly”. The bands much-awaited sophomore album Pinkerton (1996) — “El Scorcho”, “The Good Life”, and “Pink Triangle”— went gold in record sales and has been a steady seller since.
Weezer refused to ride on those past glories when they returned in 2001 with The Green Album, sounding vigorous on the hits “Hash Pipe” and “Island in the Sun.” The hard, heavy Maladroit, featuring “Dope Nose” and “Keep Fishin’,” followed in 2002. Three years later, Weezer released Make Believe in 2005, an album highlighted by “Beverly Hills,” their first single to climb into the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100. The Red Album arrived in 2008 along with the single “Pork and Beans” whose YouTube-satirizing video won Weezer their first Grammy.

Concert Review: Chevelle Out of this World Performance

Chevelle, the Chicago trio consisting of Pete Loeffler (vocals, guitars), Sam Loeffler (drums) and Dean Bernardini (bass, live backing vocals) performed at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe on October 27 in support of their new album Sci-Fi Crimes.
It was an evening full of music with three opening bands, The Asylum, New Medicine and After Midnight Project. While The Asylum seemed to be heavier metal rock, then one would expect for a Chevelle concert, New Medicine seemed to bridge the musical gap and After Midnight Projects’ performance completed the transition and was able to draw the majority of the crowd that had been waiting on the patio into the theatre, proving they are an excellent tour companion.
Chevelle took the stage around 10:15, providing an entertaining and interactive experience to the crowd. Accompanied by dence fog, green and deep blue lighting the stage defiantly set to provide a Sci –Fi feeling and allow the audience to be abducted by the trio.
It was immediately down to business as the intricate rifts of the first song began as the crowd exploded. Pete travelled across the stage ensuring to not neglect anyone from the audience. Vocals were right on point as the Marquee filled with energy from the performance. The crowd loved the musical journey they were on. The venue was not filled to capacity, however, this was an advantage as it allowed concertgoers to move freely to the music and not just stand there listening to it.
Clips from various movies would play providing transitions between songs and at times Pete would interacting to the crowd, at one point stating the obvious “As you can see know we’re sort of into the whole alien thing now.” But then followed by a surprising request, “ Oh and if anyone’s had any alien encounters we’d love to talk to you after the show” some members of the audience laughed others seemed very excited by the opportunity.
Chevelle set list was dominated by their latest effort, Sci-Fi Crimes featuring “Sleep Apnea”, “Jars”, “Letter From A Thief”, “Roswell Spell” and others. The Trio also played fan favorites such as “The Red” “Send the Pain Below” from Wonder What’s Next, and “Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)” from This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In during their 90 minute set.
Overall, it was a dynamic night of music. As I drove past the tour busses shortly after midnight, I couldn’t help but wonder about the small crowd that remained patiently waiting. Were they just dedicated fans or did they have they had alien abduction stories for Chevelle? Your guess is as good as mine!
